BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Canisius point guard Billy Baron is two days away from the NBA Draft, after going through weeks of pre-draft workouts.
“Me and the other guys, we’re on that fence, so it’s tough,” said Baron. “You got to compete every single day. It’s cool to see these cities, it’s cool to meet these people, but in the end it’s a job interview. Everyone’s competing against each other for it… You have to handle your business.”
Baron has worked out for ten teams leading up to the draft, with a few other workouts falling through, due to scheduling conflicts. The Bulls, Hawks, Jazz, Bucks, Knicks, Cavs, Rockets, Wizards, Spurs, and Pistons all brought him in for a workout.
“Trying to showcase my shooting ability, obviously, but they’ve seen that over the course of the year. Trying to show that I can play off the ball, I can play on the ball, I can handle it, I can make passes for others, but also I can defense. That’s a big thing for me, is to open eyes with my defense,” said Baron.
Baron would likely be a second-round target, if a team drafts him Thursday night. With his workouts complete, Baron’s upbeat about the possibility.
“I’m hoping so, I really am. I can’t tell you, I don’t know what my gut is telling me… I’m hoping for an opportunity to get my foot in the door. I’m telling these teams that no one will work harder. I’ll run through a wall for them. That’s what I’m hoping for, I just want to hear my name,” said Baron.
