BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – An anesthesiologist from Western New York pleaded guilty Tuesday to defrauding the University of Rochester.

Doron Feldman, 54, of Williamsville was working for CGF Anesthesia and Associates in Buffalo and providing anesthesia services to patients undergoing surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital and other medical facilities in the Rochester.

Prosecutors say between September 2007 and December 2009, Feldman along with Debra Butler and others devised a scheme to submit false invoices for services that were never provided. Butler worked with the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Rochester and approved the payments.

In total, the scheme netted the women nearly $1.5 million, with around $630,000 going to Feldman.

Feldman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud. Butler was convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering and is awaiting sentencing.
