Runners lace up for Buffalo Broadcasters 5K

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Runners laced up their sneakers Wednesday night for the 6th annual Buffalo Broadcasters Association Celebrity 5K. Some 300 runners stepped off near Canalside in steamy summer conditions and wound their way through the streets of Buffalo back to the waterfront.

The race raises money for the Broadcasters Association film archive project to preserve old news film of events from the 60’s in Buffalo and to Western New York Heroes, which supports local veterans.

Among the field of 300 runners, the leading overall male finisher was Jim Park of Buffalo with a time of 17:29. Megan Caltigirone lead the way for the women, finishing the 5K in 19:16. The two top finishers won glass trophies to commemorate their victories.

The event featured a post-race party at Canalside with hot dogs, pizza, liquid refreshment, and music. Channel 4 was a co-sponsor of the race. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
