Garbage truck flips on its side in Niagara County

CAMBRIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A City of North Tonawanda garbage truck flipped on its side in an accident in Niagara County Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies say the truck was fully loaded when it failed to stop at a stop sign around 12:30 p.m. on Lower Mountain Road at Shawnee Road in Cambria. Authorities say the driver of the truck attempted to turn at the intersection, causing the truck to overturn.

The male driver of the truck was flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight with unknown injuries that did not seem life-threatening. Two other male occupants were taken to DeGraff Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. No fuel or garbage escaped the truck. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
