Deputies: Man caught trying to steal metal pipes

ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say they caught a man red-handed as he attempted to steal metal pipes from a construction company in Elma.

The sheriff’s office was called to Greenauer Development on Transit Road on reports of a man stealing materials. When deputies arrived, they say they found John Andrisani with 15 metal pipes still in the bed of his truck.

While interviewing him, deputies say the 36-year-old Cheektowaga man admitted stealing other material the previous night and selling it to an area scrapyard.

All told, the materials are worth around $18,000. Most of the evidence was returned to Greenauer Development.

Andrisani is charged with attempted grand larceny and trespassing. He is due back in Elma Town Court at a later date.
