Fire that destroyed Olive Garden was accidental

BLASDELL, N.Y. (WIVB) – A fire that destroyed the Olive Garden in Blasdell on June 16 has been determined to be accidental.

The last workers left the building at 12:45 a.m., and the fire began around 15 minutes later. Fire investigators say they found the flames sparked from a grease fire that spread to the rest of the kitchen and then the rest of the building.

The fire is not considered suspicious and the investigation is closed.

A spokesman for the restaurant said they’re working to place the employees at other Olive Garden or Darden Restaurants locations in the area. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
