Man who allegedly shot at deputies accused of attempted murder

BOSTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Boston man who police say fired on Erie County Sheriff’s deputies has been indicted on charges of attempted murder and weapon possession

Matthew Eck, 48, of Brown Hill Road was arraigned Thursday morning. Eck is accused of shooting at Erie County Sheriff’s deputies with an assault rifle when they were responding to his residence on a domestic disturbance call.

Three cruisers were hit by gunfire and one deputy was left with glass fragments in his eyes.

A woman and children were inside the house when the situation started, but made it out of the home when police arrived. Police set up a perimeter around the house where the gunman was holed up for over 12 hours.

Police say the man’s family was cooperative with authorities during the standoff. Throughout the evening, a total of eight nearby homes were evacuated.

If convicted, Eck faces a maximum prison sentence of 40 years. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
