Baron, McCrea, Heath get NBA shot

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Despite going undrafted, a trio of local college basketball players will still get a chance to make an impression in one of the NBA’s summer leagues.

Former Canisius point guard Billy Baron will join the Chicago Bulls for summer league games. Chicago was one of the ten teams to work out Baron leading up to the draft. Baron, the MAAC Player of the Year, averaged 24.1 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds a game last season for the Griffs.

His teammate, Jordan Heath, will suit up for the Detroit Pistons in the Orlando summer league. Heath, a 6’10” forward, can stretch the floor, shooting 41.3% on three-pointers as a senior.

McCrea joins the Dallas Mavericks for summer ball, one of several offers UB’s all-time leading scorer had to choose from.

Dallas and Chicago both play in the Las Vegas summer league, running from July 11-21. The Pistons play in the Orlando summer league, hitting the court July 5-11. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
