Sabres host NHL Draft viewing party

Tim Murray

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The NHL Draft begins Friday night. No pressure, Sabres, but fans are hoping the team makes a pick that will help get them back to the playoffs.

They’re in a really good place to do it. The Sabres have the second overall pick. Florida has the first selection.

Sabres GM Tim Murray says he thinks the Panthers will go with Defenseman Aaron Ekblad. The leaves forwards Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett on the board.

Whoever the Sabres pick, the next question will be: How soon will we see them in Buffalo?

Murray said, “18-year-old kids mature at different times. The summer after the draft is huge. That’s just a guessing game, I guess. But talent-wise, there are quite a few guys in this draft that can play in the national league right now.”

Rumor has it the Sabres might also want to trade for another first rounder if possible.

You can watch the draft at the First Niagara Center. The Sabres are hosting a viewing party. The doors open at 6 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
