Sabres ready, as draft approaches

Tim Murray

PHILADELPHIA (WIVB) – The Sabres hold the #2 overall pick in tonight’s NHL Draft. GM Tim Murray would like to add another first-rounder, if possible, but says trade talks on Friday were silent in the hours leading up to the draft.

“It’s quiet,” Murray said earlier today. “I think a lot of people, including myself, did a lot of tire kicking. I thought I did more than tire kicking. I said, there must be a blockbuster going on, because no one’s reaching out to us right now anymore.”

Murray indicated, a potential trade up into the first round could involve bundling second round picks, and that type of trade would materialize during the draft. On the flip side, a trade involving players would take more planning.

“I have a couple of really complicated ideas, so I don’t know if I can execute them in an hour, but we have good people here, so we’ll get it done if something happens,” said Murray.

The NHL Draft begins tonight at 7pm in Philadelphia. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
