Wegmans recalling organic deli ham

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Wegmans is recalling around 6,000 pounds of its “Food You Feel Good About Organic Ham” after bits of plastic were found in the meat.

The product was made on May 29 and shipped to grocery stores in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia to be sliced at deli counters. The organic ham was sold between June 12 and June 25.

Wegmans says an employee discovered a piece of plastic inside the ham while slicing it and officials determined it had broken off of an interlocker belt during production.

The product bears pack lot numbers 14941309, 14941310 and 14941311 and has “EST 9935” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the labels.

So far, there have been no reports of any injuries or illnesses. This alert does not affect the vacuum-sealed plastic sleeve of Wegmans FYFGA Organic Uncured Ham which hangs in the cooler near the deli department because it is produced by a different supplier.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact E.G. Emils & Sons, Inc. at 215-763-9824.
