Sabres add a defenseman

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. (WIVB) — After the Sabres bolstered their offense with their early picks of the 2014 NHL Draft, the Sabres chose defenseman Brycen Martin with the 74th overall pick.

The Sabres used their second pick in the third round to acquire the Calgary native. Martin played most recently in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos.

At 6’2 the two-way defenseman has good size to accompany his strong skating ability. Martin joins the Sabres organization, which is crowded with young defenseman.

This past season the Martin had 37 points with six goals and 31 assists in 72 regular season games in the WHL. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
