NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Niagara County man who admitted he tried to kill his brother-in-law over a business dispute is going to prison.

A judge sentenced Timothy Depetris to 25 years in prison on Monday. Last year, he accompanied a pizza deliveryman to the home of 56-year-old Sandro Viola. Viola hadn’t ordered a pizza, and when he opened the door to see what was going on, he was shot in the upper chest.

Viola survived the shooting and Depetris and the pizza deliveryman were arrested. Then later, while locked up, police say Depetris tried to hire a hitman to kill Viola and the deliveryman.

Investigators say Depetris, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder, was angry over a business dispute.
