Pair on scooter arrested after being stopped for lacking helmets

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pair stopped for riding a scooter without using helmets fought troopers as they were placed under arrest for operating a stolen vehicle, according to authorities.

State Police stopped 21-year-old Jose Rodriguez and 19-year-old Joselyn Rodriguez on Porter Avenue in Buffalo on June 23 for riding the scooter without helmets. Troopers say they discovered the scooter was reported stolen from a city address this past April.

While placing both under arrest, authorities say they fought with police, and Joselyn attempted to flee from the scene. Troopers quickly took both into custody.

Jose and Joselyn are each charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, second degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, second degree obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, and other vehicle and traffic violations.

Jose was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both are due back in court at a later date.
