Top aide to Cuomo leaves administration

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A longtime adviser to Andrew Cuomo has left the Democratic governor’s administration.

Howard Glaser, who most recently served as Cuomo’s director of state operations and senior policy adviser, left his state government position on Friday.

A Cuomo spokesman says Monday that the departure was “long expected” and that Cuomo and Glaser remain on excellent terms.

Glaser has played a vital role in Cuomo’s office, negotiating budget deals, working to keep the Buffalo Bills in western New York and spearheading New York state’s response to Superstorm Sandy.

His relationship with Cuomo goes back decades. He worked in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development when Cuomo led the agency.

Glaser has not announced his future plans.

Cuomo’s office says a decision of his replacement is expected to be made soon. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
