Funeral director sentenced for stealing from clients

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A funeral director who admitted embezzling funds from his clients is going to prison.

Paris Childs, 54, of Akron pocketed money from as many as 15 customers who pre-paid for burial arrangements. Childs was supposed to deposit their money in private bank accounts.

He pleaded guilty to third degree grand larceny and was sentenced Tuesday to five-and-a-half to 13 years behind bars. He was also ordered to pay $79,690 in restitution.

Four years ago, Childs was convicted of stealing $175,000 from an elderly widow and served six months in jail. He also forfeited his state funeral director’s license, turned over the funeral home to another operator, and paid restitution.
