Funeral director sentenced for stealing from clients

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A funeral director who admitted embezzling funds from his clients is going to prison.

Paris Childs, 54, of Akron pocketed money from as many as 15 customers who pre-paid for burial arrangements. Childs was supposed to deposit their money in private bank accounts.

He pleaded guilty to third degree grand larceny and was sentenced Tuesday to five-and-a-half to 13 years behind bars. He was also ordered to pay $79,690 in restitution.

Four years ago, Childs was convicted of stealing $175,000 from an elderly widow and served six months in jail. He also forfeited his state funeral director’s license, turned over the funeral home to another operator, and paid restitution. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
