Police: Woman admits stealing funds from fire dept.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Lockport woman is accused of stealing from a fire department’s auction fund.

State Police say a two-month investigation revealed Jackie Briggs, 39, received at least six checks dated back to 2011 made payable to her from the South Transit Fire Hall’s auction fund that were not part of legitimate transactions.

Troopers say she admitted forging signatures on four checks and using the funds for her own benefit. Police say she stole more than $2,000.

Briggs is charged with fourth degree grand larceny and is due back in court later this month.
