Blaze destroys barn in Genesee County

BETHANY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Flames engulfed a barn in Genesee County Friday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to Mike Adams’ farm on Little Canada Road in Bethany around 2:30 p.m. Adams raises beef cattle and calves. They are housed in the barn next to the one that burned to the ground, but happened to be in the field at the time the blaze broke out.

Adams says he was working in his shop and walked out to heavy black smoke coming from the barn. Besides the barn being a total loss, he has other concerns.

“We had an old hydrant in there that kind of broke apart, so we just have to cap it off if we can so we can continue to have water for the cattle because they drink quite a bit,” he said.

The barn contained their bedding and feed. Fire crews were able to save the other structures around the barn that caught fire.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
