Community comes together for Cheektowaga parade

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) New York State Senator Tim Kennedy and the Gold Star Mothers led the Fourth of July parade in Cheektowaga on Friday.

A Gold Star Mother is someone who has a child that has died in the line of service. Sen. Kennedy said he wanted them to be with him Friday to honor and remember their families.

The parade is a family tradition for many Western New Yorkers. Some people told News 4 they have been attending the parade for decades, and that they love it because it brings the community together. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
