Family safe after house fire

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Several people escaped a house fire in Buffalo Saturday night.

It happened in the 800 block of Humboldt Avenue just before 7 p.m. Buffalo Fire Department Division Chief John Mogavero said after an initial sweep of the home, a mother pulled up on the scene and said her son was still inside. After a second sweep, firefighters found everyone had cleared the residence.

Firefighters were able to put the flames out relatively quickly once they deemed everyone had left. Division Chief Mogavero said the damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure, and $15,000 for the items inside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
