Police release pedestrian’s name after fatal crash

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amherst Police are investigating an accident Saturday night that killed one person.

According to police, 67-year-old Vanessa G. Rugg, of Clarence, was struck around 8:30 p.m. by a 2010 Ford Explorer while crossing Sheridan Drive. Rugg was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and died from their injuries.

Police say she did not have identification on her at the time of the accident, and her car was found nearby the next morning. It’s unclear why she was in the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash. The driver was not charged.

Part of Sheridan between Bauman Road and Ayer Road was shut down for several hours while police cleared the scene.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Amherst Police Department at 689-1311.
