Firefighters battle blaze on Walden Avenue

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The crew from a passing ambulance spotted flames shooting from a house on Walden Avenue just before 11 p.m. Sunday. The fire started on the second floor, crews were able to knock it down pretty fast.

Firefighters were told by neighbors that there was a disabled woman in the house, so a frantic search took place for her.

Buffalo Fire Department Division Chief John Mogavero said, “Luckily she wasn’t in there, we did a good primary search, a secondary search, and once everything was cleared we were able to sweep the building and finally found out that she was staying with a friend or a relative.”

Buffalo firefighters say no one was hurt in the blaze. The fire remains under investigation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
