Court releases documents in alleged ‘Fantasy Island’ sex assault

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — Court documents reveal new details about the alleged sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl at Martin’s Fantasy Island. The documents from the Grand Island Town Court give detail about what one family says happened inside the amusement park, at the end of June.

Court documents, obtained by News 4, report, in graphic detail, the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl at Martin’s Fantasy Island. Deputies report Barry Hollis, 36, Niagara Falls, was the attacker.

The report was filed by the girl’s parents. Her mother wrote a ‘supporting deposition’ explaining the attack happened while the ‘Crazy Mouse’ roller coaster was in motion. She wrote the alleged attacker was unknown to her daughter.

“I want to pursue criminal charges against whoever is responsible for this horrible act,” the mother wrote.

The assault is reported to have happened on June 22, about 5 pm, according to court documents.

Four days later, on June 26, the supporting deposition was filed with the Erie County Sheriff’s office.

On July 2, according to these documents, Hollis was charged with sexual abuse in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

News 4 learned of the arrest on July 3. Still, the sheriff’s office will not comment on the arrest.

News 4’s Ed Drantch spoke with Barry Hollis’ mother Penni Hollis on Monday. She said, “We just have a child that was born not healthy as we are, and unfortunately our world doesn’t see things that way.”

Drantch asked Penni Hollis if her son was capable of the assault. She answered, “No and not understanding even if he did.”

News 4 asked her if her son has a history of crimes like this one. She said, “Not at all, never has, never will.”

Hollis is due in Grand Island Town Court on Tuesday for a felony hearing.
