Event to focus on importance of helmets

Head injuries

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Doctors at Children’s Hospital want to make sure your children are safe on their wheels this summer.

On Tuesday, they are hosting a bicycle and head injury prevention education event at the Ken-Ton Family Support Center. A brain jello mold will be on display to demonstrate how easily the brain can be injured when not wearing a helmet.

Brand new helmets will be given out to all of the children and teens that are serviced by this center, which will include a proper helmet fitting. There will also be sunscreen provided to the families along with some education on preventing sunburn.

The goal is to show parents and children how important wearing a helmet really is. It starts at 10 a.m.
