BUFFALO, N.Y.(WIVB) – The New York State Thruway Authority is warning of an email ‘phishing’ scam. The Authority says it is an unauthorized attempt to collect toll payments.
The email contains a headline which says it is from “E-ZPass service center.” It goes on to say, “Dear customer, You have not paid for driving on a toll road. This invoice is sent repeatedly, please service your debt in the shortest possible time. The invoice can be downloaded here.”
The Thruway Authority says the E-ZPass Service Center does not send out email invoices for payment. The Service Center uses the U.S. Postal Service to send notice of payment due.
The best advice if you do receive one of these ‘phishing’ messages is not to respond, and to delete the email, according to the New York State Thruway Authority.
The Authority says if you have any questions about messages you receive from E-ZPass, you may contact the E-ZPass New York Customer Service Center at 800-333-8655.
