Teen accused of sexual assault in Allentown alley

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 16-year-old man has been arrested in a sexual assault that took place near Elmwood Avenue and Allen Street over the weekend.

Buffalo Police say Dionte M. Cooper of Porter Avenue dragged the 24-year-old victim was dragged into an alley, knocked to the ground and forcibly sexually assaulted. Cooper allegedly took the victim’s iPhone before fleeing on foot. The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Police, with their Sex Offense Squad Detective, looked at surveillance cameras in the area to gather evidence. Cooper was located on Linwood Avenue and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sexual act, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

Tuesday, Buffalo Police warned the public about three other attacks on women.

The first incident occurred on June 30 when a woman was sexually assaulted in front of the Shoreline Apartments on Niagara Street.

Two days later, on the 400 block of Delaware Avenue, police say a woman returning home was putting her bike away in a storage area of an apartment building when she was sexually assaulted.

Four days after that, a woman walking her dog on Ashland Avenue near Bryant was hit over the head with a bottle. She was injured but was able to escape the area.

Women are encouraged to travel in groups, be aware of their surroundings, and to not be distracted by electronics such as cell phones.
