Accident leaves 1-year-old girl with serious burns

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police in Cheektowaga are investigating after a 1-year-old girl was burned on 20-percent of her body.

Authorities tell News 4 the child’s 18-year-old uncle was filling a butane lighter Tuesday night at a home on Broad Street when it caught fire.  The child’s mother said it looked like he had a handful of fire. The man went running, and the fire dropped on the child.

Police say they are investigating the incident because they cannot locate the uncle.

The young girl has been taken to Cincinnati to be treated. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
