Police union wants barracks built along gorge

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – The union representing New York State Park Police is pushing for construction of a new barracks at Niagara Falls State Park to resume.

A dispute over the location put plans on hold last month. The new spot is supposed to be right on the Niagara Gorge behind the Howard Johnson Hotel; the old station is on Goat Island.

The union says the gorge would be easier for visitors to access it.

Opponents say they’d rather see something there to attract tourists.
