Recycling encouraged at Taste of Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y.(WIVB) – With hundreds of thousands of people expected to be eating along the streets of Buffalo during the Taste of Buffalo this weekend, city officials are reminding visitors to use the recycling carts throughout the festival site.

Buffalo’s Division of Sanitation will be picking up and emptying the green and yellow recycling carts during the two-day food festival, as well as garbage bins.

Officials have listed the items that should go into the green and yellow recycling carts. They include: empty plastic bottles, empty aluminum cans, new cardboard food trays and clean paper.

These items do not belong in the recycling carts and should instead be thrown in the garbage bins: food waste, food containers, used plates, napkins and forks, and other miscellaneous garbage.

Managing waste at the 2014 Taste of Buffalo is a major undertaking. The Taste of Buffalo is widely considered the second largest food festival in the entire country. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
