Throwback Thursday: Crystal Beach closes 25 years ago

CRYSTAL BEACH (WIVB) – This weekend you can share in some fond memories of one of Western New York’s favorite summer hot spots, Crystal Beach Amusement Park.

It has been 25 years since the park closed its doors for good and this weekend park lovers and historians will be celebrating with “Memories Days.”

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday you can see the old park ride cars, check out a Halls sucker and quench your thirst with a Crystal Beach loganberry.

On Sunday there will be a concert at Waterfront Park where the Toronto All Star big Band will play songs familiar to Crystal Beach patrons.

Crystal Beach lover and historian Paul Kassay is asking park lovers to bring in Crystal Beach memorabilia to Queens’ Circle. You may be able to sell it or trade it to other fans of the park.

WIVB.com’s Throwback Thursday video this week is from the last day at Crystal Beach 25 years ago. The story is by now Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg. Watch the included video to see the story from 25 years ago.
