5K helps raise money for Children’s Hospital


SNYDER, N.Y. (WIVB) – Runners hit the road Monday night to help sick children.

Loughran’s 5K started at the corner of Main Street near Harlem in Snyder. Money from the race helps the Children’s Hospital lung unit in memory of Ken Kaiser.

This was the race’s 20th year and some 600 runners took part. The annual event was hosted by County Legislator Tom Loughran and Loughran’s Restaurant.

First place finisher was a professional runner from Kenya with a time of 14:43. But the first male amateur to cross the line was 25-year-old David Szymicowiak at 17:54. The first female finisher was 16-year-old Clare Lostio of Williamsville with a time of 19:24.

News 4’s Jacquie Walker was also at the race. Both her husband and son competed.
