SHERMAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Jamestown man is facing charges in an accident that left him and his two passengers injured.

Deputies say Mark Maio, 20, was driving east on Rt. 430 in the Town of Sherman around 2 a.m. on Sunday when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone while traveling at a high rate of speed. Authorities say Maio lost control of his vehicle, which left the roadway and struck several trees.

He was taken by ambulance to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. His front seat passenger, 18-year-old Kayla Clark of Jamestown, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown to Hamot Medical Center by Starflight. His rear seat passenger, 19-year-old Todd Clark of Jamestown, was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown by ambulance.

Maio is charged with unsafe passing, speed not reasonable and prudent, and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Deputies say additional charges are pending the results of a toxicology report. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
