BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Two manhole covers popped off on the Niagara Thruway in Buffalo Sunday, which caused trouble for drivers.
The Thruway Authority and State Police tell News 4 that the covers came off after a fast-moving rainstorm because of air pressure in the sewer system beneath the highway.
Two cars driving on the 190 hit the manholes and have tire and wheel damage. No one was hurt.
The Thruway Authority says it will weld the covers down to prevent the problem from happening again.
