YORKSHIRE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Residents called State Police when they spotted a man walking through backyards wearing a mask used in the film “V for Vendetta.”

Troopers responded to the Town of Yorkshire around 10:30 p.m. on July 4 where they found an unmasked man who was taking his pants off. Suspecting he might be trying to change his appearance, officers questioned the man, later identified as Luke Mattson of Arcade.

Police say the 23-year-old had the mask, a Guy Fawkes mask made popular in the film, hidden in his backpack as well as Oxycodone that was not prescribed to him.

Mattson was arrested for seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and violating public health law.

However, police say it doesn’t appear he committed any crime while traveling around town in the mask.

Mattson was issued appearance tickets and is due back in court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
