ASHFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Officers say a woman who had drugs in her vehicle left her 1-year-old child in an unsecured car seat in the rear of her vehicle.

Deputies stopped Amy Bednarek of Cheektowaga on Rt. 219 in Ashford around 10 a.m. on Saturday for speeding. While speaking to her, officers say they could smell marijuana emanating from the 33-year-old’s vehicle.

Authorities say Bednarek was in possession of marijuana, a glass pipe and a Valium tablet. And her passenger, 31-year-old Aaron Hegge of Cheektowaga, was also in possession of marijuana.

Deputies say they also found Bednarek’s 1-year-old daughter was placed in a car seat that was completely unsecured in the back seat.

Bednarek is charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding and improper restraint for a rear seat passenger less than 4 years of age. Hedge is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both are due back in court at a later date.
