News 4 team greets the crowd at Canal Fest parade

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Canal Fest hosted a large parade Tuesday night, complete with fire companies and marching bands, pageant winners and community organizations.

The eight-day festival celebrates the canal that binds Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, and residents look forward to this summer event every year. The parade is one of the biggest in Western New York and lasts around two hours.

Jeannette Hammond said, “The people, it brings money into the community, and the food is great. It’s just great.”

Members of the News 4 team were there to wave “hello” to all the friendly resident. Don Postles and Steve Vesey rode together in a slick Porsche Turbo from Redline Rentals, while Don Paul and Jacquie Walker greeted the crowd from a ’67 Pontiac Grand Prix, courtesy of Don Davis of Great Valley.

News 4 would like to give a special thank you to John Sherman from Salem Church, who never forgets our pie for dessert, and John from Wally’s Pizza, who gave us two pizzas this year for the newsroom crew.
