Parent, seven minors charged in underage drinking party

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies charged a parent at a home in the Town of Clarence where they say several minors were drinking in the backyard.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office was called to Keller Road on Sunday after receiving a call to the Underage Drinking Tip Line.

Deputies arrived just after midnight and stopped some people at the home who attempted to get in their vehicles and leave the scene. Others were caught as they tried to flee into the woods.

Steven Langley, the homeowner and a parent of one of the minors at the party, claimed he was unaware there were so many people in his backyard but said he was trying to monitor the part of any alcohol use.

He was charged with giving alcohol to a person under age 21 and acting in a manner to injure a minor. Langley is due back in Clarence Town Court on August 7.

In all, seven minors were charged with unlawful possession of alcohol.
