Senator looks to extend pre-clearance program

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Senator Charles Schumer is backing a program designed to cut down on delays at the Peace Bridge, permanently.

A pre-clearance program is aimed at moving trucks across the bridge more quickly. Schumer says the pilot program is working well but there’s a legal sticking point over where a U.S. border agent would be tried if the agent commits a crime in Canada.

He’s introduced a bill to resolve that, and keep pre-clearance around for the long haul.
