Several arrested for drugs after being stopped on same stretch of road

SHERMAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Traffic stops on Wait Corners Road in the Town of Sherman on the day before and on Independence Day yielded several drug arrests, according to State Police.

Kyle Melancon was the first person arrested by troopers on July 3. He was stopped on Bailey Hill Road, which intersects with Wait Corners Road, for failing to keep right. Police say the 27-year-old Sloan man was in possession of marijuana, hash oil and fireworks.

He is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawfully dealing with fireworks. He was also ticketed for failing to keep right and a window tint violation.

An Erie, PA couple were stopped on Wait Corners Road on July 4 and placed under arrest. State Police say William Adams, 30, and Renee Semrau, 29, were in possession of marijuana, heroin, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.

Both are charged with three counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of second degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Scott Hinze of Dale was stopped on Wait Corners Road on July 4 and police say they noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from his vehicle. Police say the 47-year-old was in possession of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, 16 grams of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

He is charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

A passenger in his vehicle, 51-year-old Nancy Hinze, was ticketed for unlawful possession of marijuana.

On Independence Day, troopers stopped a 21-year-old Westfield man on Wait Corners Road and say he was in possession of 54 grams of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms.

Andrew Lindstrom is charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

The last arrest on July 4 was of 31-year-old Arlyn Schindler of Gowanda. He was also stopped on Wait Corners Road and police say he was in possession of synthetic narcotics.

Schindler is charged with two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a public health law violation for having a controlled substance not in an original container.
