BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — If you have been near Canalside this summer, you’ve likely seen the orange kayaks and stand-up paddleboards that have become a huge attraction along the Buffalo River.

They belong to BFLO Harbor Kayak, which was founded by Jason Schwinger in May 2009. Schwinger is a true pioneer. When he took a chance by launching this business five years ago, there were no other water activities at Canalside. Today visitors can take their pick of what to do.

“We haven’t looked back. Every year it’s just been growing and growing and it’s just fun to see thousands of people here,” said Schwinger, a Western New York native who lived out west for several years before returning home. “People are discovering a city they’ve never seen, that they’ve perhaps lived in all their lives.”

BFLO Harbor Kayak is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers one and two-person kayaks as well as stand-up paddle boards. They can be rented hourly for 15 to 30 dollars, or for half a day during the week for 40 dollars to 75 dollars.
