Erie County Fair previews food items

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) – As the Erie County fair looks ahead to its 175th year, organizers are celebrating food.

Marty Biniasz, the Erie County Fair’s special events coordinator, said, “The number one reason people come to the fair is the food.”

This year they’re focusing on what is considered the signature food of the fair.

“There’s not a point on the grounds that you can’t smell chicken being cooked,” said Biniasz.

Instead of competing with each other, on August 10th, three local BBQ companies are joining forces.

Weidner BBQ, Chiavetta’s Catering Service and B.W.’s BBQ hope to create the state’s largest chicken BBQ with between 15,000 and 20,000 pounds of chicken.

Burce Will of B.W.’s BBQ said, “The three of us ought to be able to pull off this event proving all the people get here.”

Also at the fair:

DOGZILLA: A corn dog wrapped with 1/2 pound of bacon

BACON CORN DOG: Deep-fried corn dog with bacon mixed into the batter

BACONANA: Chocolate-covered frozen banana with bacon pieces mixed into the chocolate coating

SOUTHERN TIER FRIED CHICKEN DONUT: Fried chicken with chipolte sauce nestled between two halves of a glazed donut

CONCH FRITTERS: Ocean conch deep fried into nugget pieces
