BCBS to pull out of Medicaid program

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York is pulling out of the Medicaid managed care program. They say they have lost more than $40 million over the past few years because of the program.

BCBS says they will work with New York State to assure that members see no gaps in coverage, as they switch to their new options. In a statement, BCBS says no one will lose coverage as a result of the change.

BCBS currently administers Medicaid to 53,000 people in six western New York counties. They will no longer offer the programs on October 31st.
