Buffalo Police searching for killer after double homicide

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — As Buffalo Police search the east side for clues after a Friday morning shooting, they’re trying to gather enough evidence to find a killer.

The cirucmstances surrounding this double murder are unclear. We’ve learned it was not a random shooting.

Buffalo Police spokesman Mike DeGeorge said shots were fired from a nearby vehicle. DeGeorge confirmed the shooting on Jefferson Avenue was not random.

Sources tell News 4, the man who was shot and killed, 37-year-old Shamel Parker, was the intended target.

“In some cases, I think there are instances of street justice and other factors,” DeGeorge said.

Police say Parker had been arrested in May on charges of harassment and unlawful imprisonment.

DeGeorge said, “my understanding is he was just recently out of jail, I don’t know if there’s a connection with that.”

The couple was stopped at a red light, at Jefferson and Sycamore, about 2:15 am. Buffalo Police say they were shot through the window of the car.

Frances Ross said she is Parker’s brother. She was looking for any information, hours after Parker and his girlfriend, 29-year-old Tyneisha Pettiford, were killed.

“A guy came up to us and told us what he saw. He said that he heard the shooting. He ran outside. He saw a car spin off and he saw the car crash,” Ross said.

The car crashed into an SUV that was parked in the driveway of a corner home.

Ross said Pettiford is believed to have been pregnant. Police would not say if she in fact was pregnant.

Buffalo Police continue their investigation. Anyone with information should call 847-2255.
