Bills offense struggles on day three of camp

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Fans who made the early-morning trip to Pittsford today, likely headed home disappointed, with the Bills offense struggling mightily on the first day in full pads.

Sammy Watkins again had a nice moment early in the day, burning Leodis McKelvin deep for a touchdown from EJ Manuel, but that was one of the few highlights this morning.

“I try to treat practice like a game and I think the rest of the team does,” said Manuel. “So if you have a miscommunication, like I said, we’re still putting new players in the thing, so if a guy didn’t get a signal or if he forgets what he has on a certain route, just move on to the next one. Try not to let one mistake become two.”

Multiple miscommunications plagued the offense, and the offensive line struggled against pressure.

“You get tired. You get frustrated. For me, I had a couple mental errors, but that’s why we practice out here, to fix those type of things,” said Watkins.

Bills head coach Doug Marrone gave quarterback Jeff Tuel some reps with the second team today, clearing the way for a competition between Tuel and Thad Lewis for the backup job. Marrone also said Dan Carpenter will be the kicker. Dustin Hopkins will try to make the roster as a kickoff specialist.

Marcell Dareus was again not in attendance, after his flight from Alabama last night got canceled due to bad weather. The team announced he had arrived, late this afternoon.

The Bills have another 8am practice session scheduled for Wednesday, before an off-day on Thursday.
