Amherst board passes resolution for new cops

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Amherst will soon have more manpower to fight crime after the town board approved a resolution to hire three new police officers.

This brings the total count to 153 police officers, and according to the resolution there was a history of maintaining that many officers in the town. The positions were already covered in the budget.

Councilmembers Ramona Popowich and Mark Manna sponsored the resolution, which passed in a 3-2 vote. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
