JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies spotted a vehicle early Saturday morning they say was being driven on a rim and was leaking anti-freeze.

Officers say they noticed the vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on Foote Avenue in Jamestown and it appeared to have recently been in a front-end collision. As deputies approached, they noted the airbags and blown and the operator, 31-year-old Larry Babcock, Jr., was injured.

The sheriff’s office called Starflight, which airlifted Babcock to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA.

Deputies investigated and determined he was driving drunk when he crashed into an earth embankment on Foote Avenue Extension in the Town of Kiantone. Babcock is charged with DWI, moving from lane unsafely and operating on an unsafe tire.

Babcock was listed in stable condition at the hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.
