Schwebel’s issues recall after Listeria found in bakery

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WIVB) – Schwebel Baking Company announced a voluntarily recall Tuesday for certain products after Listeria was discovered in its Youngstown bakery.

The company’s president, Paul Schwebel, said at this point, no customers seem to have been affected. The bacteria was discovered during routine testing and the bakery halted production. The FDA was alerted and all shipments were put on hold.

The products that may be affected were shipped to retail outlets, restaurants and institutions in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Schwebel’s says if the product code near the “best by” date begins with the letter “A,” the product is a part of the voluntarily recall. They should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase.
