Walmart offers back-to-school discount to teachers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – It may be hard to believe, but the back-to-school rush is already in progress and Walmart is wooing teachers by offering them 10-percent back when they buy school supplies at their store.

Walmart’s Teacher Appreciation Week launches Friday and runs July 25 through July 31. Teachers who take part in the program will receive an e-gift card worth 10-percent of their purchase for eligible items.

Shoppers beware that the refund does not count for online purchases; the sales must take place in the stores.

The savings process for teachers is simple:

  • Shop Walmart stores for classroom supplies.
  • Visit by August 15 to register receipts by entering teacher’s school information and receipt transaction code.
  • Savings on eligible items from select departments* will be delivered on a Walmart e-gift card via email within 14 days of submitting the receipt online. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
