BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A woman who tried to smuggle drugs into the Erie County Holding Center and later brought drugs to court will spend the next year in jail.

Last January, Crystal Bonek was arrested while attempting to visit an inmate. Deputies say she swallowed some of the drugs, but a suboxone strip and oxymorphone tablets were found in her vehicle.

The 22-year-old was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband into a prison, both misdemeanors, as well as concealing/destroying physical evidence, a felony.

Bonek later appeared in Buffalo City Court, where officers found on her person a baggie and straw containing cocaine residue. She faced new charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband into a prison, both misdemeanors.

Last Thursday, Bonek was sentenced to one year in jail for both incidents.
