BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A probationary Buffalo Police officer who admitted selling drugs will spend the next year-and-a-half behind bars.
In November 2013, James Hamilton, Sr. sold a half-pound of marijuana to a source working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. At the time of the sale, the 29-year-old probationary officer had his Buffalo Police-issued .40 caliber Glock handgun.
Hamilton was arrested and a search warrant was executed at his Floss Avenue residence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says officers seized 80 pot plants, between three and four pounds of processed marijuana and a shotgun. As a result, he no longer works for Buffalo Police.
Hamilton pleaded guilty to distribution of marijuana in February. Wednesday, a judge sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
